DIY Ideas for Fall Scents with Whole, Natural Ingredients

These are simple ideas for creating your own personalized DIY fall scents at home with items that you no doubt have in your kitchen right now. Making homemade fall scents is as easy as boiling water. Start by simmering on low heat 2-4 cups of water in a saucepan on the stove-top and then add in your choice of ingredients from the list below.

Another option is to use a Crockpot on low setting, or put your mixture in a baking dish in the oven on low heat 250-300F, then turn it off when it comes to temp, and the heat will keep the mixture warm, filling your home with the scents of fall. Below I’ve listed ideas for ingredients to add to your water.

Choose any of the ingredients listed to mix or match creating your own personal scent, that is uniquely you. Experiment with different combinations and see which is your favorite! The best part is, that these natural, whole food ingredients are a healthier choice than breathing the artificial ingredients in some commercial scents.

Add fruit such as: apples, cranberries, oranges, raisins. Also add spices such as: anise, bay, cinnamon, cloves, coffee beans, ginger, lavender, nutmeg, rosemary, vanilla, or pumpkin pie spice.

But Wait, There Are More Easy DIY Tips

Baking is my favorite way to make my home smell amazing. Give it a try! Try a seasonal favorite such as baking an apple pie, making apple cider, or apple butter. Any combination of apple and cranberries is an amazing fall scent.

Scented pinecones are another unique way to enjoy the scents of fall and cozy up your space. Fall scented pinecones are usually for sale in hobby stores or grocery stores. I know my local Trader Joe’s has had AMAZING smelling ones out front by the pumpkin display.

Open the windows! This one is so simple, sometimes it’s easy to overlook. Bring in that crisp, autumn air to cozy up your space. There is nothing like a fresh, crisp, breeze to bring fall inside your home space.
