How to Declutter Your Closet

Closets so easily become a catchall for clutter and unused items, mainly because the only time spent in our closet is in the morning before rushing off to work or school, when there is no time to rearrange closet items. Not having to scramble to look for a handbag or pair of shoes as you’re getting ready, will start your day off on a more positive note, making you calmer, and more in control as you head off to work, simply by having an organized closet. This article, will guide you in how to declutter your closet, providing you with ideas and products to keep your items easily accessible, organized, and your sanity intact.

Fall is a great time to do this as the season is changing since you’ll be bringing out warmer clothes anyway. Schedule time to declutter your closet when you are able to allow yourself at least an hour or two to complete the project. Start by determining which clothes to keep and which need to be donated. Then, with the items you are keeping, determine what products you need to buy before you begin to organize.

Shoe racks, and hangers are a must, and can be purchased at most home stores. Decide if your closet would benefit from a vertical or horizontal shoe rack. Click here for a cute horizontal bamboo shoe rack on Amazon. Or click here for a space-saving vertical one. Personally, I love these wooden hangers.

Decorative boxes are great for storing smaller things, such as scarves or hats. Amazon has these that come in several pattern options. Or try these linen storage bins, which are handy, and will keep you organized.

Another closet item you need is extra lighting. If you can add spot lights they look fantastic, but will be expensive. Otherwise, I highly recommend these LED, wireless, remote controlled, lights that can be mounted by simply sticking them under shelves, on the ceiling, or even in a wardrobe. They are super versatile, and will elevate your closet look.

For closets that don’t have enough space, clothing racks are just what you need. They are functional, affordable, and still decorative. These are a must-have for a dorm room or small apartment home, where there just is no extra closet space. Clothing racks are also helpful for planning your outfits for the week. On the weekend, hang out each day’s outfit on the clothing rack, with the accessories and matching shoes to save time in the morning throughout the week. It’s like meal-prepping, only for clothes. Definitely check out this clothing rack with wheels or one similar.

I hope these ideas have given you inspiration to tackle your closet and be in control of your clutter. Follow Gal with Style for more organization tips!
