Transform your home into a fragrant paradise with our DIY ideas for spring scents.
Making DIY scents for your home just makes sense. Pardon the pun. But seriously, there are so many reasons you should give it a try. Artificial fragrances and candles can be an irritant to the respiratory system, especially if you have asthma. DIY fragrances can last longer than the artificial ones. You can change scent combinations as often as you like, making scents as unique as you are. There are countless combinations from ingredients most people have in their kitchen right now. And lastly, these DIY ideas are not only easy and affordable, they will bring spring indoors and make your home smell fresh as a daisy. Who doesn't want that?
A simmer pot is the most common (and quickest) way to fill your home with wonderful scents. Bring a pot of water to a simmer on low and add a combination of herbs, fruit slices, fruit rinds, essential oil drops or extracts, or veggies such as cucumber or ginger, into the pot and let it simmer. It couldn't be more simple. Plus, it's a good use for produce that is no longer as fresh as you'd like it-mainly citrus. When limes or lemon get old they get dry but they will still smell good!
Another great option, is to create your own room spray. For this you need a spray bottle, distilled water, witch hazel ( to bind the oil and water), and essential oil. There are so many recipes on the internet but a rough estimate of what I use is, about 4 oz. distilled water, 2-4 oz. witch hazel, and about 30 drops total of a single essential oil or any combination of essential oils. Just 30 drops total-not each oil. Shake this to combine and you've created your own room spray.
