Nothing evokes more happy Christmas memories than the aroma of cookies baking.
For me, the most difficult part is choosing what to bake for the holiday season. Trying new recipes or sticking with what you know? There are so many fantastic recipes out there to choose from, but the best ones are the ones you make year after year. The ones that become a tradition. The ones that Christmas wouldn't be the same without, or that friends and family request for parties.
These family favorite Christmas cookies STAY on our holiday baking list-no matter what else comes and goes, and I hope they become your new favorites as well. So gather your ingredients, find a cute Christmas apron, and plan an afternoon of baking Christmas cookies. On your mark, get your cocoa, and let's start baking!
I like to stock up before starting. It's best to check your pantry and baking supplies BEFORE beginning to bake, so you don't have to make a frantic dash out to the grocery store. Also, before you go, be sure to check the expiration dates on yeast, baking powder (name-brand makes a noticeable difference), or any leavening items to insure best performance. I've made this mistake and learned my lesson!
The Classic Sugar Cookie
Sugar cookies deserve their own category in the cookie world. Although they are simple and plain, they are so delicious. There are countless variations and flavors or toppings for sugar cookies, and I hope to try each one! These Almond Glazed Sugar Cookies are family favorites for Christmas in my home. The almond flavor combines with the buttery sugar cookie make an amazing combo!
GWS tried these Sugar Cookies with Royal Frosting this year and it was a huge success, earning its spot on the must-have baking list. The cookie dough was delicious as well as being easy to handle and roll out (which is critical in rolled cookie dough). Plus, the frosting was the perfect consistency and sooo shiny. These are great for decorating or gift baskets. Definitely give this one a try this year.
The BEST Peanut Butter Cookie
These Peanut Butter Cookies are gluten free AND seriously delicious. I love that the peanut butter is more flavorful in these cookies because it's more concentrated than the recipes with flour. My family isn't gluten free but they love these cookies more than the traditional flour kind because they are so flavorful.
The Gingerbread Cookie
You will definitely want to add these Soft Gingerbread Latte Cookies with Browned Butter Frosting from Half-Baked Harvest into your holiday plans. Not only do they taste delicious, but they make an impressive gift.
