Laundry can be one of the less pleasant facts of life, and often our laundry room becomes a catch-all for random household items. But with the proper tools and organization, you can combine both aesthetics AND function. Laundry day will be easier with all the tools you need at your fingertips, and I'll share tips to make it stylish as well. It will no longer feel like a chore. You'll agree, that laundry IS sorted.

1. Maximize Storage Solutions

The first step is to evaluate where you can add extra storage space. Brainstorm how to use every single inch of space you have available!

There are space-saving solutions for even the smallest of laundry rooms. The trick is to incorporate any combination of wall shelves, a countertop, cabinets, hanging rods, or pegs to what makes the best use of your space.

Since most laundry rooms are cramped (WHY), I like to utilize the wall space to add extra storage, as this space is often wasted. This will give you room to add shelving, hanging rods, and organize supplies.

Shelving is the best solution for wall storage. There are endless options for floating wall shelves, or pre-fab shelving units. Think outside the box and consider repurposing a bookcase for shelves, if you have the wall space. (Add wallpaper to the back of a bookcase or walls if your laundry is in a closet, to add a touch of personality)!

A countertop over the washer and dryer is a great place to fold clothes, plus gives you extra room for supplies. Amazon has pre-fab ones or you could have one custom cut to fit your space.

Another easy solution is hanging a rod over sink or above the washer and dryer to have a space to hang clothes to air dry or wet swimsuits. Hanging space is essential! For more compact areas, consider space saving over-the-door, or expandable types to maximize your space.

Also, if you have the space, create an area to store laundry baskets. This way they will always be within reach when you need them.

2. Get Organized

Now that you have your extra storage space or shelving sorted, its time to organize! The goal is to make your laundry room do all the work-work smarter not harder!

Baskets are perfect for organization because they are aesthetically pleasing yet functional. They're perfect inside cabinets or out on shelving. Plus, baskets are versatile because you can find ones that complement EVERY decor style.

I like to add a small decorative bowl or tray to catch spare change from pockets. Create a spot to hold those spare socks. Just the simplest organization tools can make any chore easier.

Analyze what items you use daily and need to have at your fingertips to make your work simpler. And don't hesitate to keep detergent, or fabric softener handy. Simply put them in aesthetically pleasing containers, such as glass canisters. I like the coordinated feel of matching sets rather than different bright packaging.

After completing the storage and organizing solutions we'll cover, make it yours by adding accessories, rugs, art pieces, or organic plants for warmth and color. There is no rule that says laundry rooms have to be boring! Decorate your laundry room as you would any other room in your home, so it brings you joy.
