I am currently loving the return of rattan in home decor! At first, I have to admit I was a little skeptical. But then, as I have seen so many beautiful examples, I have become a huge fan. Personally, I think rattan is a summer staple as much as lemonade or ice cream. As a lover of summer, I try to fully immerse myself in every aspect of it, especially within my home, and rattan is the perfect addition to my summer decor. Rattan evokes memories of alfresco dining in the sunshine, which is just the sort of things I want to surround myself with this summer, don't you? Read on to learn how rattan (done right) will spice up your space for summer. In this article, I will share my tips for using rattan to add relaxed summer vibes to any room.
Although its been around forever(practically), rattan has been making a comeback for a few years in home decorating and this year it has become increasingly popular. Whereas it was once only used in Coastal or Nantucket styled homes, that is not the case anymore! With its versatility and the relaxed elegance, plus with the way rattan blends into every home decor style, you'll understand why.
Can too much rattan be excessive? Most definitely! As you can see from this gorgeous photo above by Lindye Galloway Studio+Shop, the key is to NOT OVERDO it. Above all, choose one accent piece that speaks to you, is my recommendation. But not an entire matching set. Matching sets of rattan belong on the patio. For indoors, you want to avoid buying a entire matching set of rattan furniture at all costs, and I can't say this emphatically enough. A matching set immediately gives off vibes that bring to mind a VRBO or Blanche's condo from the Golden Girls set! Try to think of rattan as more of an accessory for your space, like earrings, not the entire outfit. Less is more.
Speaking of accessories, a perfect example of using it as an accessory is this rattan lounge chair. Notice how it blends into this living room style seamlessly. As I've said, when rattan is styled the right way it will insert the perfect neutral tone of warmth and visual depth. Making your space more inviting and relaxed because it adds natural beauty combined with texture. I love that rattan is lightweight and easy to move, which is great for when you entertain guests and need to rearrange seating options quickly.
